Edible Oil Self-Sufficiency Push in India

At its 48th Annual General Meeting, the Indian Vegetable Oil Producers' Association (IVPA) called for renewed urgency in accelerating India’s path to self-sufficiency in edible oils.

The sector today is navigating a complex landscape—marked by:

Re-elected IVPA President Sudhakar Desai highlighted:

“With imports stabilising and showing signs of decline, there is renewed urgency to accelerate the path toward self-sufficiency in edible oils, despite competition from other key crops like pulses, rice, and wheat.”

With India still importing nearly 60% of its edible oil needs, the message is clear: collaboration between farmers, policymakers, and industry leaders will be critical to achieving sustainable growth and food security.

🌱 भारत का खाद्य तेल क्षेत्र एक अहम मोड़ पर 🌱

अपने 48वें वार्षिक आम बैठक (AGM) में, इंडियन वेजिटेबल ऑयल प्रोड्यूसर्स एसोसिएशन (IVPA) ने भारत को खाद्य तेलों में आत्मनिर्भरता की दिशा में तेजी से आगे बढ़ने की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया।

आज यह क्षेत्र कई चुनौतियों से गुजर रहा है:

🔹 पाम और सोयाबीन तेल में वैश्विक मूल्य अस्थिरता

🔹 बदलते मुक्त व्यापार समझौते

🔹 घरेलू नीतिगत चुनौतियाँ

पुनः निर्वाचित IVPA अध्यक्ष सुधाकर देसाई ने कहा:

“आयात स्थिर हो रहे हैं और गिरावट के संकेत दिखा रहे हैं, ऐसे में खाद्य तेलों में आत्मनिर्भरता की राह को तेज करना और भी जरूरी हो गया है, भले ही दालें, चावल और गेहूँ जैसी अन्य प्रमुख फसलों से प्रतिस्पर्धा हो।”

भारत अब भी अपनी खाद्य तेल आवश्यकता का करीब 60% आयात करता है। संदेश स्पष्ट है: किसानों, नीतिनिर्माताओं और उद्योग नेताओं के बीच सहयोग से ही सतत विकास और खाद्य सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित हो पाएगी।
