Japan Eyes Bangladeshi Rice Bran Oil for Imports: Sanwa Yushi Expresses Interest

In a promising step for Bangladesh’s edible oil sector, Yozaemon Yamaguchi, Managing Director of Sanwa Yushi Company Ltd., Japan, expressed interest in importing non-refined rice bran oil from Bangladesh.
This came during a view exchange meeting titled “Market Demand and Future Potential of Rice Bran Oil in Bangladesh”, held at the FBCCI headquarters in Dhaka and chaired by Md Alamgir, Secretary General, FBCCI.
👉 Yamaguchi noted that rice bran oil producers currently supply 30–40% of Japan’s edible oil demand, but domestic capacity falls short.
“As there is a high demand in Japan, we’re interested in importing non-refined oil from Bangladesh,” he said.
The discussion also highlighted the untapped export potential of rice bran oil, given Bangladesh’s abundant supply of raw materials. Experts emphasized that scaling production could reduce dependence on imported edible oils while opening new international markets.
While some local producers cautioned against exporting non-refined oil due to raw material concerns, others proposed exporting both refined and non-refined variants to balance domestic and export needs.
Md Alamgir invited Japanese investment and technical collaboration, assuring that FBCCI would extend full cooperation if Sanwa Yushi establishes operations in Bangladesh.

यह घोषणा “बांग्लादेश में राइस ब्रान ऑयल का बाजार मांग और भविष्य की संभावनाएं” शीर्षक से आयोजित बैठक में की गई, जो एफबीसीसीआई (FBCCI) मुख्यालय, ढाका में हुई। बैठक की अध्यक्षता एफबीसीसीआई के महासचिव मोहम्मद आलमगीर ने की।
👉 यामागुची ने बताया कि जापान में राइस ब्रान ऑयल उत्पादक वर्तमान में देश की कुल खाद्य तेल मांग का 30–40% आपूर्ति करते हैं, लेकिन घरेलू उत्पादन क्षमता इस मांग को पूरा करने के लिए पर्याप्त नहीं है।
“जापान में राइस ब्रान ऑयल की भारी मांग है, इसलिए हम बांग्लादेश से नॉन-रिफाइंड तेल आयात करने में रुचि रखते हैं,” — यामागुची ने कहा।
बैठक में विशेषज्ञों ने राइस ब्रान ऑयल के निर्यात की अपार संभावनाओं पर भी प्रकाश डाला। बांग्लादेश में चावल प्रमुख फसल है, इसलिए कच्चे माल की उपलब्धता देश में भरपूर है — जिससे यह उद्योग आयात पर निर्भरता घटाने और नए निर्यात बाज़ारों को विकसित करने की क्षमता रखता है।
हालांकि कुछ स्थानीय उत्पादकों ने नॉन-रिफाइंड तेल के निर्यात से घरेलू प्रसंस्करण उद्योग के लिए कच्चे माल की कमी की आशंका जताई, वहीं अन्य विशेषज्ञों ने रिफाइंड और नॉन-रिफाइंड दोनों प्रकार के तेल के निर्यात का सुझाव दिया।
एफबीसीसीआई के महासचिव मोहम्मद आलमगीर ने जापानी निवेश और तकनीकी सहयोग का स्वागत करते हुए कहा कि यदि सांवा युशी कंपनी लिमिटेड बांग्लादेश में औद्योगिक इकाई स्थापित करती है, तो एफबीसीसीआई पूर्ण सहयोग प्रदान करेगा।
