Oil palm cultivation vision for self-reliance: Guv

“Oil palm cultivation is not merely an agricultural activity but a vision for economic growth, farmer empowerment, and national self-reliance,” said Governor KT Parnaik during his visit to the 4-hectare oil palm farm of progressive farmer Miti Megu Perme in Bosi Didum village, East Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh.
During the visit, the Governor interacted with farmers and officials, gaining firsthand insights into the farm’s operations and the transformative potential of oil palm cultivation in the region.
Governor Parnaik emphasized that while India is among the largest consumers of edible oil, it remains heavily dependent on imports. Promoting oil palm, therefore, is a strategic step towards reducing import dependency, strengthening the rural economy, and ensuring price stability.
He noted that Arunachal Pradesh’s fertile soil, favorable climate, and abundant rainfall make it ideal for oil palm plantations — offering farmers steady income, long-term security, and opportunities for agro-based industries.
The Governor lauded the state government’s proactive efforts under the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), highlighting that:
🌱 Oil palm cultivation has already expanded by 4,690 hectares, benefiting nearly 2,000 farmers under the Per Drop More Crop scheme.
🌾 The state has set an ambitious target of bringing 35,723 hectares under oil palm by 2025-26.
🏭 With the country’s first crude palm oil mill in Roing and another factory coming up at Niglok, processing capacity and farmer confidence are rising steadily.
Progressive farmer Miti Megu Perme, who began harvesting in 2021, shared that palm oil is now yielding 2–3 tonnes per harvest, with demand increasing due to the new Niglok factory — creating a strong and reliable market for local growers.
East Siang DC Sonalika Jiwani added that oil palm cultivation is becoming a highly remunerative venture, driving sustainable rural growth and boosting the local economy.

“ऑयल पाम की खेती केवल एक कृषि गतिविधि नहीं, बल्कि आर्थिक विकास, किसान सशक्तिकरण और राष्ट्रीय आत्मनिर्भरता की एक दृष्टि है,” यह कहना था राज्यपाल के. टी. परनाइक का, जिन्होंने अरुणाचल प्रदेश के ईस्ट सियांग ज़िले के बोसी डिडुम गाँव में प्रगतिशील किसान मिति मेगू पर्मे के 4 हेक्टेयर के ऑयल पाम फार्म का दौरा किया।
दौरे के दौरान राज्यपाल ने किसानों और अधिकारियों से बातचीत की तथा ऑयल पाम खेती के संचालन और इसकी संभावनाओं का प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव लिया।
राज्यपाल परनाइक ने कहा कि भारत विश्व के सबसे बड़े खाद्य तेल उपभोक्ताओं में से एक होते हुए भी अभी तक आयात पर निर्भर है। ऐसे में ऑयल पाम को बढ़ावा देना एक रणनीतिक कदम है — जो आयात निर्भरता को घटाता है, ग्रामीण अर्थव्यवस्था को मज़बूत करता है और उपभोक्ताओं के लिए मूल्य स्थिरता सुनिश्चित करता है।
उन्होंने बताया कि अरुणाचल प्रदेश की उपजाऊ मिट्टी, अनुकूल जलवायु और प्रचुर वर्षा ऑयल पाम खेती के लिए आदर्श हैं — यह किसानों को स्थिर आय, दीर्घकालिक सुरक्षा और कृषि आधारित उद्योगों के अवसर प्रदान करती है।
राज्यपाल ने राज्य सरकार के प्रयासों की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि राष्ट्रीय खाद्य तेल मिशन–ऑयल पाम (NMEO–OP) के तहत उल्लेखनीय प्रगति हुई है:
🌱 ऑयल पाम की खेती 4,690 हेक्टेयर तक फैल चुकी है, जिससे लगभग 2,000 किसानों को Per Drop More Crop योजना के तहत लाभ मिला है।
🌾 राज्य ने वर्ष 2025–26 तक 35,723 हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र में ऑयल पाम लगाने का लक्ष्य रखा है।
🏭 देश का पहला क्रूड पाम ऑयल मिल रोइंग में स्थापित हो चुका है और दूसरा निगलोक औद्योगिक
केंद्र में निर्माणाधीन है — जिससे प्रसंस्करण क्षमता और किसानों का विश्वास दोनों बढ़ रहे हैं।
प्रगतिशील किसान मिति मेगू पर्मे ने बताया कि उनका फार्म वर्ष 2017 में स्थापित हुआ था और 2021 से फसल देना शुरू किया। वह हर महीने 3–4 बार कटाई करती हैं, जिससे प्रति कटाई 2–3 टन तेल की उपज होती है। निगलोक में नए पाम ऑयल कारखाने के कारण मांग बढ़ी है, जिससे स्थानीय किसानों को एक सशक्त बाज़ार मिला है।
ईस्ट सियांग की उपायुक्त सोनालिका जिवानी ने कहा कि बढ़ती मांग के साथ ऑयल पाम खेती अब एक अत्यधिक लाभदायक गतिविधि बनती जा रही है, जो स्थानीय अर्थव्यवस्था को मज़बूती दे रही है और किसानों को टिकाऊ आय के अवसर प्रदान कर रही है।
