The Asian Palm Oil Alliance (APOA), the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), and Solidaridad Network Asia Limited (SNAL) have signed a new MoU in Mumbai to strengthen cooperation and make the palm oil sector more sustainable — especially in India and South Asia.
Why This Matters?
Palm oil is used daily by over 1.5 billion consumers in South Asia, but ensuring a steady, sustainable, and fair supply has always been a challenge. This agreement aims to fix that.
Key Focus Areas
Sustainability AlignmentThe partners will bring together different national sustainability standards:
ISPO (Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil)
MSPO (Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil)
IPOS (Indian Palm Oil Sustainability framework)
Smallholder & Traceability SupportThe MoU emphasizes inclusive sourcing — ensuring small farmers are part of the supply chain while meeting NDPE standards (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation).
Digital TrackingSolidaridad’s Soli Trace tool and remote-sensing technologies will be used to track palm oil from mill to market, giving Indian buyers clear visibility through dashboards.
Regenerative PracticesBeyond compliance, the collaboration will promote regenerative farming methods to protect the environment while keeping supply stable.
What’s Next?
With CPOPC acting as a catalyst, this partnership could set a new benchmark for responsible palm oil trade in the region. For Indian consumers, it means better transparency, and for small farmers, it opens doors to global sustainability standards.
